Each of the equal sides of an isosceles triangle is 5cm longer than the third side. the perimeter of the triangle is 31cm . the length of each equal side ,in cm. is

Let third side of traingle be x then other two equal sides are, (x + 5)
perimeter = x + x + 5 + x + 5 = 31
3x = 21
x = 7
equal sides are x + 5 = 7 + 5 = 12 cm

let the smallest side be x
2(x+5)+x=31
3x=21
x=7
=>> the length of the equal side=7+5=12

x - 5 = the short side
x + x + ( x - 5 ) = 31
3x - 5 = 31
3x = 36
x = 12
so the equal sides are 12 cm in length

The length of the third side is x.
The lengths of the equal sides are each x+5.
The total perimeter is (x+5) + (x+5) + x = 31
This can be simplified to:
3x + 10 = 31
3x = 21
x = 7

The shorter side is 7cm.
So the equal sides are 7+5 = 12cm.
